02/2005Malaysian Fellow Becomes First Woman Chief JusticeDatuk Siti Norma Yaakob 90 was sworn in as Chief Judge of Malaya this month, making her the first woman to hold the position in the country. This is not the first time she has been the first: in 1994, Yaakob was the first woman to be a Court of Appeals judge and in 2001, she became the first woman Federal Court judge. Bahraini Fellow is Second Female Minister in Nations HistoryFatima Al-Balooshi 96, has been appointed Minister of Social Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain, making her only the second woman minister in the history of Bahrain. "The best job in theatre goes to Irish FellowFiach MacConghail 04 has been appointed director of The Abbey Theatre, Ireland's national theater. Currently serving as an advisor to the Minister for Arts, Sports, and Tourism, MacConghail will become director-designate in May and will officially become director in January 2006. This is the best job in theatre in Ireland, says MacConghail, and I shall be responsible for the programme, building and staff of the organisation for the next 5 years. Ramos currently serves as city solicitor, and previously served as president of the school board. Indian Fellows Recognized for Revitalization ProjectRaman Madhok 04, Sangita Jindal 04, and Abha Lambah 02 were recognized by BP Ergo and Indian Architect & Builder Magazine, for their cooperative effort, the Street Revitalization Project in Mumbai. The project provided the city with high-grade stainless steel to revitalize public space. It is believed to be the first public space revitalization project in India to use primarily steel and stone as a design item and to be funded for the public by a local corporation. |
