Beijing Event: Developing Executive Talent

On December 5th, Eisenhower Fellowships co-hosted an event in Beijing with its partner, the Chinese Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE). The event focused on “Developing Executive Talent” and was sponsored in part by the ACE INA Foundation Speaker Series. The panel presentation featured two Eisenhower Fellows, Harvey Chang, ’01, China (Taiwan), president and CEO of Taiwan Mobile; and Chen Poujian, ’06, China, chairman and CEO of Tianan Insurance. Discussion focused on ways to attract, develop, and retain talented leaders in Chinese and multinational companies today.

John Wolf and Jiang Bo, ’99, China, secretary general of CEAIE, gave remarks over dinner. A highlight of the day was the keynote address from Kai Fu Lee, CEO of Google China, who captivated the attendees with his speech on leadership. Seventy participants attended, 30 of whom were Eisenhower Fellows from China, China (Taiwan), Korea, Japan, Australia, and the United States. Eisenhower Trustees Kimball Chen and Derek Chilvers also participated, as did a number of EF sponsors.

This event was also an opportunity for 12 Fellows from the Northeast Asia Regional Program to reunite for the first time since their program in the United States in the fall of 2006. CEAIE hosted a luncheon for them prior to the event, and the Fellows organized a bus tour for the day following (several Fellows on their tour are shown at left).

USA Fellow's Work on Display at Michener Museum

Barry Parker, '96, USA, is currently showing his sculptures at the James A. Michener Art Museum in Doylestown, PA. Parker's sculptures are constructed of hammered and formed bronze sheets that are then welded together. "The acts of heating, hammering and welding create a surface that appears aged and stressed," he says. "I allow the welds to remain visible because they can be read almost like scars."

The show will be at the Michener Museum until March 1, 2009.
