Reunion dinner in Argentina

EF Trustee Nathan Hayward hosted a dinner for 24 Argentine Fellows and many of their spouses in Buenos Aires. In Nathan’s words, “The venue was simply breathtaking - the old Mansion adjacent to the Four Seasons Hotel, which has been beautifully restored for receptions and dinners like this.”  Fellows from as far back as 1957 were present, as were the most recent Argentine Fellows from 2008. The group gathered with much enthusiasm to connect with their fellow alumni; some had their passion for the EF network reignited. Hayward presented Conrado Etchebarne, ’62, with an engraved frame to commemorate the evening.

On February 9th, St. Louis Steering Committee member Doug King hosted a luncheon for the Committee and the Eisenhower Fellows of St. Louis at the Saint Louis Science Center, where he is President & CEO.   The five 2009 St. Louis Fellows discussed lessons learned on their STL grouptravel abroad.  They are Kevin Gunn, Commissioner, Missouri Public Service Commission, who traveled to Australia; Michael McMillan, License Collector for the City of St. Louis, who traveled to Ireland; Michael Moehn, Sr. Vice President, Corporate Planning & Strategic Management, Ameren Corporation who traveled to Argentina & Chile; Michelle Sherrod, Regional Director, U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill, who traveled to China; and Clint Zweifel, Missouri State Treasurer, who traveled to Brazil & Spain.

Argentine Fellow publishes book

Silvia Bacher, ’01, Argentina, has come out with her latest publication, Tatuados Por Los Medios (Tattoed by the Media). Jesús Martín Barbero says in the foreword: "To look at the current school situation from within and without anger about all that the information society challenges and restates in its disenchanted binding is very difficult to find in the tide of books on the theme that the market confuses us today. What is most rife is the deceitful manipulation of 'new technologies' to cover with noise and digital brightness depth of the crisis in the relations of the school with his society, or the haughty contempt with which the mutation is identified techno world we live with the most fatal of Western decadence. Hence, it is so substantive and socially useful, lucid thinking and broad experience gathered in this book that also meets the diagnostic and the layout of tracks."
