Fellow reunion in Chile

The Eisenhower Fellows of Chile came together at a recent dinner in Santiago hosted by Trustee, Nathan Hayward and wife, Marilyn. The March 9th gathering was the 1st event for the newly founded EF Chile Alumni Association. Francisca Valdes, ’08, was elected to succeed Marco Antonio Gonzalez, ’96, as President of the association. Sergio Calvo, ’57, was awarded a “50 year” Eisenhower pin. Diane Shoemaker, Director of the EF Alumni Network, also attended and briefed the Chilean chapter on three USA Fellows who will travel to Chile this September on their fellowship program.

EF President John Wolf on tour of South Asia

To observe the relationships that have been building since the 2004 SRP, EF President John Wolf visited India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. He spoke with Fellows about how they can identify some common interest around the region and develop concrete outcomes in the next 18-24 months. These discussions included topics such as climate refugees, historic preservation and Sanjeev Sanyal's, '07, India, idea of property rights. New Zealand Social Development Minister Paula Bennett to join 2010 Women's Leadership Program

In EF's first Women's Leadership Program, Paula Bennett, '10, New Zealand, has accepted a spot in the 2010 fellowship coming this fall. She has been featured in various newspapers around her country, as well on local news spots. Click here to hear more about Prime Minister John Key's support of Paula Bennett. Fellow in Bangladesh receives grant

U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh James F. Moriarty presented a check to Taimur Islam, '07, Bangladesh. Islam is the Team Leader of the Urban Study Group, which has received a grant from the U.S. Government’s Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation to restore a historic building in Shakhari Bazaar, Old Dhaka. Shakhari Bazar is Dhaka's oldest neighbourhood, where descendants of the original Hindu community are still around today. Taimur Islam was in EF's first Common Interest Program which centered around urbanization. While looking at the role of cultural identity in the overall urban development process and in heritage management, his fellowship focused on experience and best practices in legislation, community participation, financing conservation, and developments in technology.

Fellow Reunion

Chungwan Choi, '04, Korea, had an unexpected reunion with Dr. Vitit Muntabhorn, '02, Thailand in Cheongju City, Korea. Dr. Muntabhorn was invited as a speaker at the North Korea Human Rights Session in Korea Human Rights and Environmental Conference. This was organized by the Korean Bar Association where Choi is a Chair of the International Committee.

Two Fellows selected as WEF 2010 Young Global Leaders

SanjeevSanjeev Sanyal, '07, India, and Esteban Bullrich, '06, Argentina, were selected by the World Economic Forum as 2010 Young Global Leaders. According to the WEF website, the forum recognizes up to 200 people under the age of 40 "for their professional accomplishments, commitment to society and potential to contribute to shaping the future of the world." Sanjeev is the Founder and a Managing Trustee of Sustainable Planet Initiative. Esteban is the Secretary of Education of the City of Buenos Aires.
