Leonard Mungarulire helps promote the development goals of Rwanda and the East Africa Community (EAC), through economic and social integration of the region. The EAC market encompasses six member countries and provides access to a market of 162 million people. With a combined GDP of $160.7 billion, this forms a powerful consumer base for domestic, regional and global investors. Mungarulire has worked with and advised the Rwanda Development Board, Ministries of Agriculture, Trade and Industry, as well as the Private Sector Federation on various initiatives aimed at fostering private sector competitiveness. While with the OTF Group in South Sudan, Mungarulire led and worked with public and private sector leaders to develop the first medium-term industrial strategy for the Ministry of Commerce and Industry aimed at creating job opportunities for the world’s newest independent state. His fellowship goal was to develop a sustainable framework for enhanced partnership between the private sector in the EAC and US. This mechanism will ensure sustained commitment and follow-through by policymakers and business leaders, leading to increased investment, trade and job creation.
