Lindelwa Farisani is a Director in Equity Sales at UBS South Africa, where she and her team have played a crucial role in advancing UBS as a leader in equity research for more than five years. In addition to advising equity investors in South Africa and abroad, Farisani leads her division's endeavors in Nigeria where there is growing interest amongst local and international investors for exposure to the region. Farisani is committed to education and mentoring underprivileged students through corporate and personal initiatives. On fellowship, she used her background in finance to help small and medium-sized enterprises achieve their potential by researching effective models to improve access to finance and create business models for success. Growing access to finance for small businesses in South Africa would help in reducing the reliance on government and the private sector for jobs. The project will impact young, unemployed people and women-owned businesses, which have been shown to struggle the most in terms of growth due to lack of access to funding or help in scaling up.
