As head of strategy for the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland’s largest medical school, Adrian Devitt supports the development of one of the most international health science institutes in the world. While on fellowship, he will examine best practices in U.S. medical schools and learn from other sectors that have recognized the importance of leadership development. In addition, he would like to get the perspectives of patient groups, students, employers and others who have a deep interest in medical education reform, with a goal of developing population and patient-focused medical leaders who are not only resilient and ethical, but also focused on driving quality and efficiency in health service delivery. Devitt’s objective is to ensure leadership becomes a core component of the medical curriculum.
