Elvera Makki is director and country head of corporate affairs at Citi Indonesia, the Jakarta-based affiliate of Citibank, where she oversees communications and initiatives on corporate social responsibility focusing on financial literacy, youth economic opportunity and micro-entrepreneurship. Makki is the founder of Taman Baca Anak Lebah, a non-profit organization established in 2009 to promote a love of reading at early age. She also serves as President of the International Association of Business Communicators’ Indonesia chapter. On fellowship she wants to create an Indonesia Young Investors Program that would stem youth unemployment, stimulate entrepreneurship and improve financial literacy in Indonesia, the world’s fourth most populous country. With the goal of reaching more than 500 participants a year, the initiative will be designed to largely use digital technology, including the creation of online learning apps, as well as mentoring and coaching by small teams of subject matter experts and industry volunteers. To help accelerate the financial literacy rate in Indonesia, she plans to explore how disruptive technologies can be utilized to support this program. She also looks forward to exchanging ideas on how to help Indonesian women become more financially literate.
