As the first woman to chair the Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK) Architects’ Chapter, Emma Miloyo is poised to assume the highest leadership position in the AAK, whose membership includes more than 2,000 professionals throughout the country. In addition, she is a founding director of her own firm, Design Source, which provides solutions for building and environmental design needs. During her fellowship, Miloyo hopes to examine the environmental sustainability of urban areas and understand what makes smart cities and IT hubs successful. She will also seek to visit schools of architecture, as well as U.S. elementary schools serving low-income students. As part of her program, Miloyo hopes to learn about successful professional mentorship programs that she might replicate in Eastern Africa.
