In the Jamaican Parliament, the Office of the Leader of the Opposition holds the ruling government accountable and proposes policy solutions to the nation’s challenges. As chief of staff to the leader of the opposition, Imani Duncan Price oversees administration, policy development and outreach to key stakeholders. One significant area of concern is the lack of sustainable and equitable growth that has beleaguered Jamaica, where the economy has not significantly transformed since independence 55 years ago. On fellowship she plans to study how certain parts of the United States have developed legislative, tax, and economic policy frameworks that are conducive to the growth of sports, music and entertainment businesses and industries. Her goal: A New Economy Action Plan, with a focus on youth, that she can share with key stakeholders and citizens in Jamaica, where unemployment among young people exceeds 29 percent.
