After working in the private sector as an investment banker and subsequently as manager of International Affairs at the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange, Kamal Khalid served as Head of Communications and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of Malaysia. In this capacity he was responsible for conducting research and analysis of capital markets, finance, and economic policy; serving as liaison to government agencies and cabinet committees; and coordinating communications and media relations, including speechwriting. Khalid believes that discourse between nations is essential to improve mutual understanding and foster closer ties. With this in mind, during his fellowship experience in the U.S. he met with leaders at federal agencies, a variety of media outlets, polling organizations, and multilateral organizations.
