As Undersecretary of Renewable Energy in Argentina’s Ministry of Energy and Mining, Sebastian Kind leads the country’s development of renewably-generated electric and non-electric power sourced from wind, solar, biomass, hydro-power, geothermal and oceanic resources. Argentina has already seen significant progress resulting from the ambitious renewable energy program, “RenovAR”, which launched in 2015 and set a mandatory renewable energy target of 20% by the end of 2025. In addition to implementing positive reforms in the energy sector, the RenovAR program incorporates features to address the country’s difficulty in attracting investment capital, such as government-sponsored project financing, guarantees by multilateral institutions and fiscal incentives. During his fellowship, Kind met with business innovators and other leaders to explore mechanisms for scaling up the RenovAR model and increasing renewable energy availability globally.
