Entrepreneurial with a strong spirit for social responsibility, Tom Etling has strategically led initiatives of all sizes, achieving resounding results. He believes that addressing social issues and supporting efforts of sustainability are critical to an organization’s success, for building trust and engaging both employees and consumers as advocates. Etling has recently transitioned from his role as CEO for St. Patrick Center, one of the most respected social innovation organizations in the United States, to Partner of Strategy and Innovation for Dovetail, a marketing communications consulting agency that helps companies around the world build stronger, more profitable and responsible brands. In his new role, Etling leads Dovetail’s Corporate Social Responsibility practice. On his fellowship to Spain, Etling explored the impacts of large economic development and public-private partnership efforts, particularly the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games. Specifically, he focused on the economic, political and social factors that facilitated the success and collective impact of each effort. Etling also studied corporate social responsibility initiatives in these regions and the delicate balance between economic development and providing better resources for vulnerable communities. These best practices will inform the St. Louis region about innovative and sustainable ways to harness the collective resources of the region and make it a better place to live and work.
