An international attorney, policy advisor and civic leader, Dean Fealk crosses sectors to work alongside government, business and civic leaders and strengthen cross-national business investment and opportunities. He has advised governments and politicians at various levels on public policy issues. As an attorney, he represents leading multinational companies on legal and strategic issues related to international business. He has counseled on more than US$30 billion in cross-border deals, including mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, restructurings and integrations. Fealk assisted the Governor in establishing the state’s only overseas trade and investment office, the California-China Office of Trade and Investment. Fealk serves as advisor to the U.S. Secretary of Commerce and US Trade Representative and is a board member with key business leadership groups.On fellowship, Fealk explored subnational partnerships as a way to overcome the federal government’s constraints to negotiate, and seek an alternate path for working towards mutual benefit and global development. He is developing best practices to promote trade and investment at the sub-national level, focusing specifically on California, to form an alternative model for cooperation between the U.S. and China.
