2018 WOMEN’S LEADERSHIP AND EUROPEAN REGIONAL CONFERENCES

Some 110 guests from 31 countries convened in London for two days of dynamic, back-to-back Eisenhower Fellowships events from October 25-27.

The Women’s Leadership Conference focused on the need for women to take on leadership roles in face of increasing global challenges and presented a Fellows’ project to facilitate the EF network of women to join boards.  Key speakers included Vice Chair of the EF Board, Governor Christine Todd Whitman (via video), former President of Ireland, Mary Robinson, the Right Honorable Lord Kerr of Tonaghmore and the Honorable Virginia Kendall, District Judge of the United States District Court of Northern Illinois.

The European Regional Conference explored how European nations and societies around the world are addressing the political and social challenges posed by global migration. Among the assembled experts on this vital subject were speakers Baroness Nosheena Mobarik of Scotland, a Conservative Party Member of the European Parliament; Senior Press Officer for the International Organization for Migration, Joel Millman (USA 1991); and Sir David Baragwanath, Appeals Judge, Special Tribunal for Lebanon, International Criminal Court, The Hague. Many conference participants left London pledging to contribute to solutions to this global problem in their home countries.

Bridging the two EF gatherings, His Excellency Adrian O’Neill, Ambassador of Ireland to the United Kingdom, hosted more than 100 Eisenhower Fellows and special guests at a lively reception at the Embassy of Ireland. There EF president George de Lama announced the spring 2019 Island of Ireland Program and introduced ten new Eisenhower Fellow Youth Leaders from nine countries.
