INNOVATION PROGRAM BAY AREA EVENTS

October marked the beginning of Eisenhower Fellowships 2018 Innovation Program, welcoming 21 Fellows from across five professional fields: the future of work, education, health and life sciences, energy and the environment and design. A highlight of the Innovation Fellows’ travels across the U.S. to meet other thought leaders in their fields was a series of activities to celebrate innovation and creativity in San Francisco from Oct. 17-19 that brought together EF Trustees and sponsors and featured site visits to cutting-edge Silicon Valley firms.

In San Francisco, four of the 2014 Innovation Fellows hosted a seminar for the 2018 Innovation Fellows about maximizing their fellowship experience and how the fellowship helped propel their projects forward. For the 2014 Fellows, this was not only an opportunity to engage and collaborate with the current cohort, but it was a commitment to give back to the fellowship and to share their knowledge and experience.

That evening Eisenhower Fellowships hosted a welcome reception at the Sir Francis Drake Hotel attended by 2014 Innovation Fellows, 2018 Innovation Fellows, and Fellows in the Global Network Council. Later in the week the Fellows attended site visits hosted by Tesla, Stanford d. School, Google X, Accenture, and Sutter Health to learn about the newest innovative trends in design thinking, technology and healthcare. In between, the Fellows attended a reception at Salesforce at which EF President George de Lama announced a new Fellows’ directory on the new EF database we are building with Salesforce.

Following the 2018 Bay Area Innovation Forum, Fellows embarked on their mid-program retreat in Monterrey, California. The retreat allowed Fellows time to reflect on their first few weeks of fellowship, collaborate with the other members of their cohort on their fellowship projects and recharge for the second half of their program.
